Tottenham leading Newcastle in the race to sign 24-year-old midfielder this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old Chelsea midfielder has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer and the Blues are open to selling him.

His contract expires in the summer of 2025, and the two parties have not been able to secure an agreement over an extension. It makes sense for Chelsea to sell the player while he still retains some value.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are in pole position to sign the player despite interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United. The report states that Tottenham are in a healthier financial situation and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done.

It is no secret that Tottenham need to sign a quality central midfielder, especially with the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg hanging in the balance. Gallagher has the attributes to establish himself as a key player for the North London club and he could improve them in the middle of the park.

The boyhood Chelsea fan would ideally want to continue at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues are under pressure to sell him. They will have to comply with the financial regulations and they will not want to risk points deduction after spending freely since the takeover. Chelsea are set to miss out on Champions League qualification and it will be a major blow to their revenues.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are in a similar position as well. They will have to comply with financial regulations and they might not be able to spend freely this summer. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can take advantage of the situation and get the deal done done..
