Is LeBron James Leaving the Los Angeles Lakers? Anthony Davis Issues 1 Bold Promise

Speaking to reporters following their brutal 108-106 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday, Davis highlighted that he will be supportive of James and give him some space as he ponders his future.

James has a $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season, but if he doesn’t pick it up, he will enter free agency.

Of course after the Lakers’ back-to-back failures in the playoffs, it’s only worth wondering what LeBron plans to do. He always wants to win, and the expectation for a player of his stature is to always compete for the title.

With that being said, fans won’t be surprised if he wants to join a more established team with the coaching and right players to succeed.

“I mean he has been in this position numerous times in his career, where he had to make a decision ultimately for himself and his family. I’ll be right there supporting whatever he decides to do. … It’s still fresh. I mean, I’m pretty sure it’s not even on his mind right now. But I’m pretty sure he’ll come talk to me, tell me what’s going on before he become public with the situation just to keep me in the loop,” Davis said of James, via ESPN.

Davis did say that he will “absolutely” do everything he can in order to convince James to stay should the superstar seek for his input, per Lakers Nation. And should LeBron decide to return, AD emphasized that the championship will remain their goal.

“Obviously it’s been a great five seasons with him. If he does decide to come back, obviously this isn’t what we want to be left at, losing in the first round. If he does, obviously our goal is to come back and be a championship contender, stay healthy and give Laker Nation what they deserve,” Davis shared.

“But he has a decision to make and when that time comes, he’ll inform me and inform you guys.”

While it’s unknown what LeBron James will do with regards to his NBA future, the Los Angeles Lakers have as much motivation as Anthony Davis to convince the four-time MVP to stay.

For those who missed it, the Lakers are reportedly so determined to keep James that they are willing to draft Bronny and fulfill the superstar’s wish to play alongside his eldest son in the NBA.

Many believe that James is keeping his options open in free agency in order to join the team that drafts Bronny.

“Team sources say the Lakers are very open to the prospect of helping LeBron fulfill his dream of playing with his son Bronny by potentially drafting him,” Shams Charania of The Athletic reported.

It remains to be seen if the Lakers will really do it, but it’s definitely possible considering how much they want to have James.
