Just as the Pittsburgh Pirates were victorious on Sunday, all four of their minor league affiliates also walked away with victories, making it a 5-0 day for the organization.
A number of Pirates’ prospects performed well both on the position player and pitching side of things.
Here are the performances of note.
Indianapolis (28-28)
RF Ryan Vilade
3B Jared Triolo
Backed by solid games at the plate from Vilade and Triolo, the Indians had a 7-0 shutout win over the Toledo Mudhens.
Pirates prospect Canaan Smith-Njigba drove in a pair of runs in the victory.
Altoona (27-22)
CF Matt Gorski
SS Andres Alvarez
Gorski’s homer and Alvarez’s two RBIs helped Altoona defeat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 6-4.
Pirates prospect Mason Martin drove in the other two runs for the Curve.
Greensboro (26-23)
RHP Po-Yu Chen
CF Jase Bowen
In addition to Bowen’s grand slam, Chen’s strong start led Greensboro to a 5-4 win over the Winston-Salem Dash.
Will Matthiessen doubled as part of a two-hit game while Pirates prospect Cy Nielson earned his second save of the season.
Bradenton (27-24)
3B Jack Brannigan
CF Rodolfo Nolasco
Nolasco was on base in all five of his plate appearances and Brannigan hit his first homer of the year in Bradenton’s 6-2 win over the Tampa Tarpons.
Like Brannigan, Pirates prospect Shalin Polanco had two hits and a homer while Deivis Nadal and Luis Hernandez each had two hits. On the mound, Dominic Perachi held Tampa to two runs in five innings and punched out seven.
